About Us

  How does it work?

First you create a profile which includes information about the language you teach, your fees, locations and other relevant information.  You can also display your picture and write a personal message to a potential student.  Students search our database and view teacher's profiles.  Your information will be displayed in Japanese to make browsing easier for the student.  If a student becomes interested in you, she or he will then contact you.

Click here to see a sample profile in English and in Japanese.

Where and how do I teach?

You can teach a student wherever you both decide.  This could be a coffee shop next to a train station, your or the student's house, workplace or any other place that suits the both of you.  You can find many resources on the internet related to teaching languages but essentially it is your responsibility to come up with lesson plans and suit them to student's needs.

  How much does it cost?

We don't charge teachers anything to post their profiles.  You can post it completely for free.  We charge students a one time only fee for the teachers' contact information.  After the student contacts a teacher and they decide to study together, we are no longer involved.

What makes this site better from others?

There are few sites that perform similar service to us, however we think we provide much better service for the following reasons.

1.  No ongoing fees after introduction.  Some other teacher/student introduction websites try to act as intermediaries between them.  They make contracts with the teachers and students then they pay teachers low wages but charge students huge fees.  We think of it as simply a rip off and don't do any of that.

2.  We list teachers according to popularity.  Other teacher/student introduction sites list most recently logged in teachers first.  But obviously that has nothing to do with teacher's skills.  We list teachers according to factors such as number of times profile has been viewed or number of times contact information has been requested by students.  Also the overwhelming majority of students prefers to check profiles with pictures, so we list those first.

3.  Small teacher database.  We are a relatively new site and unlike other similar sites we do not have thousands of teachers in our database.  If you have some experience in looking for private students in Japan you will know that the best place to find them is where there are not many foreigners.  On the other hand, unlike other sites, we heavily advertise to the potential students.  We advertise on the internet, in the printed media and in other ways.  This draws many potential students to our site.

What do we ask of you?

You have to reside in Japan to create a profile on our site.  The only exception to this rule is if you teach online.  In this case you can create a profile but you must state clearly in your message to students that you do not reside in Japan and you only teach online.

You should speak the language you want to teach at the native or fluent level.  Also, please keep your contact information updated.  And don't forget to have fun while you are here!
